Where could I find good Guitar "Amp" Software?

I'm looking for something that when I hook my Guitar up to my computer, I can use to jam out too. Something with distortion, phaser's, stuff like that. I have Guitar FX Box 2.8, but after thirty days its no longer accessible. I'm trying to avoid paying for any software. And it'd be real great if there was a legitimate program that was freeware.
