What is a good wine for a beginner?

Ok so me and my husband are sitting here talking about wine....neither of us want a "tart" wine, something sweet with a smooth flavor. I have tried the "boxed wine" and dont really care much for it. We are looking for something that will be 5-15 dollars...........Any suggestions?
